SEX EDUCATION, LIBRARY USE AND STUDENTS' ATTITUDINAL PERSPECTIVES IN NIGERIAN SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Abstract

Sex and sexuality education have gradually assumed central place in educational discourse among stakeholders. It is against this background and the benefits of sex education insecondary scho ols in Nigeria that this paper attempted to elucidate the attitudinal
perspectives of students towards sex education in secondary schools in Nigeria. The paper also x-rayed the need for sex education in secondary school curriculum, locale of students and their attitudes towards sex education. The paper also interrogated library and library use by adolescents to acquire relevant information about sex and sexuality to be able to cope growing up and avoid the likely pitfalls of not being exposed to sex and sexuality education. The paper, however, suggested that sex education be taught in Nigerian secondary schools in order to help the teenagers dispel erroneous belief that sex education would encourage sexual experiments and spikes promiscuity among the students.
