ADOPTION OF INTERNET-ENABLED FACILITIES FOR EFFECTIVE SCHOOL LIBRARY SERVICE DELIVERY IN NIGERIA

Abstract

Library services are gradually shifting technologically with the adoption of necessary ICT tools which includes the Internet. The adoption and as well as the use of Internet in school libraries is of utmost important for effective school library services for the satisfaction of their users who are students, staff and school management. The important of internet facilities in school library services cannot be undermined. Therefore, this seminar paper discusses the adoption of Internet enabled facilities for effective school library service delivery in Nigeria. The paper conceptualizes the key terms of the topic and other related issues and defined school library as the library that is created and maintained to serve and support the educational activities of the school. The paper also discusses the purpose and importance of school library to include functioning as an opportunity for educators to work with librarians in support of a resource center for the students to be able to safely access the  internet for both school work and interacting with each other. Internet in this paper is equally conceptualized as an umbrella under which different networks, small and big, freely exchange information across the globe. The paper also talks about the need for adoption of  Internet facilities in school library and uses of Internet facilities in school libraries. Advantages and disadvantages of Internet based services in school library is also discussed. The paper concludes that the adoption of Internet facility for effective school library services is of much important to school. Students make use of ICT tools for word processing to type assignments, do class work and surf the Internet to access current information for their class
