ADVERSE CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCES IN NIGERIA: CONCEPT, CHALLENGES, AND INTERVENTIONS

Stressful incidents known as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) seriously impair children's development and have long-term effects on social relationships, academic achievement, and mental health. The prevalence, effects, and interventions related to ACEs are examined in this analysis, focusing on problems such as a lack of data, cultural stigma, inadequate policies, and resource constraints. The suggestions include supporting research, integrating ACEs-focused approaches into national policy increasing public awareness, enhancing professional capacity, and encouraging multisectoral cooperation. Cognitive behavioural therapy and trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy are two trauma-informed counselling techniques that are emphasised as being essential for reducing the effects of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). To prevent and lessen ACEs and promote stronger, healthier communities, this paper advocates for a comprehensive approach.
